Most, not all, motorists retaliate against cyclists by this unfounded notion. It’s their way to cause cyclists ‘pain‘ for sharing ‘their road‘ with us. Bottom line, it’s ignorance on their part and a knee-jerk reaction against us versus being educated that cyclists actually are allowed on the road…and in most states, are required because it is against the law to ride our bikes on sidewalks.
Besides, we already pay taxes for roads, etc. Bicycle tires, less than an inch wide, don’t cause any road damage; it’s the other way around. I am forced to pay taxes for schools but I don’t have any kids; the government going to stop taxing me because of that? NOT.
Bottom line, change the mindset and stereotype of motorists towards cyclists, understand why we do certain things (based on saving/protecting our skin) instead of lashing out with unmerited jolts…like bicycle taxes, etc.
As you can tell, I am quite passionate about this, but not apologetic. Can’t we all just get along and co-habitate????
See ya on the road…
