DAHLONEGA, GEORGIA — It only took four Professional Cycling Team members to make an impressive statement at this past weekend’s 25th Annual Tucson Bicycle Classic presented by Director Sportif Gord Fraser brought three Team members to his Arizona hometown to compete in the three-day race, which featured 595 cyclists across all categories, representing 20 states, Canada and Mexico. Over the March 18-20 weekend, Fraser’s squad delivered three podium spots, with two first place finishes for 23-year-old Cole House.

The Stage One time trial was held on a 3.2-mile course on McCain Loop in the Tucson Mountains and offered few surprises. Defending champion Phil Zajicek, a Tucson native, squeaked out the win by one second over Alistair Ratcliffe of Just two seconds back in third was’s Evan Hyde, 26, who resides in Park City, Utah. Teammates Ian Burnett, 24 from Durango, Colo., and House, from Oneida, Wis., rode well on their new DeRosa bikes, finishing 14 and 24 seconds behind, respectively.

Saturday featured an 80-mile stage race on the south side of Tucson, and the Classic finished wrapped up with the Stage 3 50-mile circuit race. Both stages were won by House, who used the results and bonuses to finish 4th in the overall General Classification. Hyde had strong showings in both road events, finishing 15th on Saturday and 14th on Sunday. He was 5th overall on G.C. After a strong ride in the Time Trial, Burnett supported his teammates on the road and was 30th overall on G.C.

“Stage 3 we decided that our main goal was the G.C., since we captured the previous day’s stage,” said Fraser, who represented Canada in road cycling for three Olympic Games and now resides in Tucson. “Our main objective was not to miss the break and de facto help defend Zajicek’s race lead by chasing. It was an aggressive start with a break going clear without us, but once it was caught, the second main break would forge a good lead, with Cole House representing A last lap chase brought them back with a mile to go and Cole stamped his sprint to help make up for an earlier mistake.”

Back in Georgia, Mike Midlarsky, 21 of Delray Beach, Fla., and Oscar Clark, 21 from Atlanta, Ga., raced the Georgia CupUnion City Omnium. Midlarsky finished 10th in the Saturday Criterium and 8th in the Sunday Road Race. The event is one of eight races in the Georgia Cup Championship Series.

The Pro Cycling Team will compete March 25-27 at the 12th Annual San Dimas Stage Race in San Dimas, Calif. The team will head to Redlands, Calif. to compete in the kickoff of the 2011 USA Cycling National RacingCalendar schedule at the Redlands Bicycle Classic, Mar 30-Apr 4.
